Ingredients

For the Marinade

  • 1 lb flank steak, cut into thin slices Ensure to slice against the grain for tenderness.
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch Helps create a silky texture.
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 1 tsp freshly cracked black pepper Lends a warm kick.
  • 1 tsp red pepper flakes Optional for extra heat.

For the Vegetables

  • 1 small onion, cut into chunky pieces
  • 1 cup red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 cup green bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 cup carrots, sliced thinly
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 scallions green onions, chopped For garnish.
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil For stir-frying.
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil For marinating.
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds For garnish.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Marinate the beef by combining flank steak, cornstarch, soy sauce, and sesame oil in a bowl. Allow to marinate for at least 15 minutes.
  • Prepare the vegetables by cutting onion, bell peppers, carrots, and mincing garlic.

Cooking

  • Heat vegetable oil in a skillet or wok over high heat.
  • Sear the marinated beef in batches for 2-3 minutes until browned. Remove from the pan.
  • Add the onions, bell peppers, carrots, and garlic to the pan, stir-frying until tender-crisp, about 3-4 minutes.
  • Mix in oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, black pepper, red pepper flakes, and a splash of water. Let the sauce envelop the vegetables.
  • Return the seared beef to the pan and toss everything together until well-coated.
  • Finish by sprinkling chopped green onions and sesame seeds on top.

Notes

For extra flavor, let the beef marinate longer. Adding lime juice just before serving can brighten flavors. Variations include additional vegetables like broccoli or snap peas for more texture.
