  • 1 large egg, beaten for egg wash Gives a golden sheen.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Stir the warm milk, honey, and yeast together in a large bowl. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy. Mix in the beaten egg.
  • Add flour, softened butter, and salt. Knead the mixture for 10-12 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Transfer the dough to a greased bowl and let it rise until doubled, about 1 hour.
  • Prepare the cheese filling by mixing the grated cheese with cream cheese. Toss the sliced onion with the grated topping cheese.
  • Punch down the risen dough, divide it into 6 pieces, and flatten each into a round shape. Fill with the cheese mixture and seal the edges carefully.
  • Place seam-side down on a lined baking sheet, brush with the beaten egg, and press the topping cheese. Let rise for an additional 25-35 minutes.
  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and bake for 16-20 minutes until golden brown.
  • Cool for 5-10 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to settle.

Notes

For best results, ensure milk is at the right temperature and experiment with different cheese combinations. Sautéing the onions can enhance their flavor.
