Ingredients

For the Cake

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix This serves as the rich, chocolaty base for your cake.
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil Adds moisture, making your cake soft and tender.
  • 1 1/4 cup water Helps in blending the flavors beautifully.
  • 3 pieces eggs Act as binders, adding structure and richness.
  • 1 package (3.9 oz) instant chocolate pudding mix Enhances the chocolate flavor and adds extra moistness.

For the Filling

  • 2 cups creamy peanut butter Brings the signature Reese's flavor.
  • 2 cups powdered sugar Sweetness with an airy texture for the frosting.
  • 4 tablespoons butter, melted Adds richness and helps create a smooth filling.

For the Ganache and Topping

  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips Essential for that decadent chocolate ganache on top.
  • 1 cup heavy cream Provides a luxurious texture to your ganache.
  • 1 bag (8 oz.) mini Reese's peanut butter cups Perfect topping for your cake to enhance presentation and flavor.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven according to the cake mix instructions. Grease and flour your cake pans (three 8-inch rounds or two 9-inch rounds).
  • In a large bowl, mix the cake mix, oil, water, eggs, and instant chocolate pudding using an electric mixer until smooth. The batter should be thick and chocolatey.
  • Divide the batter equally between prepared cake pans and bake according to cake mix instructions or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Let the cakes cool.

Filling

  • Meanwhile, mix creamy peanut butter, powdered sugar, and melted butter in another bowl until light and fluffy.
  • Spread the peanut butter filling between layers of cooled cakes.

Ganache

  • To make the chocolate ganache, heat heavy cream in a saucepan until it simmers, then pour it over chocolate chips and whisk until smooth.
  • Pour ganache over the assembled cake and top with mini Reese's peanut butter cups.

Setting

  • Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to set.

Notes

For enhanced flavor, consider using homemade chocolate cake instead of the box mix. Adding a pinch of salt to the ganache can elevate the chocolate flavor. You can also experiment with crushed peanuts for added texture.
