Ingredients

Seafood and Sauce Ingredients

  • 1 lb shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1/2 lb lump crab meat
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced releasing an aromatic fragrance
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion adding sweetness
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour for a velvety sauce
  • 2 cups whole milk incredibly creamy
  • 1 cup heavy cream making it ultra-rich
  • 1 tsp Old Bay seasoning for that delightful seafood zing

Cheese and Layering Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella wonderfully melty
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese for a savory finish
  • 1 1/2 cups ricotta cheese creamy and smooth
  • 1 egg for binding
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped adding freshness
  • 1 tsp lemon zest brightening up the flavors
  • 9 pieces lasagna noodles, cooked and drained

Instructions

Sautéing the Seafood

  • In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the shrimp and season them with salt and Old Bay seasoning. Sauté until the shrimp turn pink, about 3-4 minutes. Once cooked, gently fold in the lump crab meat and set the mixture aside.

Creating the White Sauce

  • In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and chopped onion, cooking until soft and fragrant. Sprinkle in the all-purpose flour and stir to create a roux. Gradually whisk in the whole milk and heavy cream and allow to simmer until thickened, approximately 5-7 minutes.

Mixing the Ricotta

  • In a separate mixing bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, egg, chopped parsley, lemon zest, and a pinch of salt. Stir until smooth and well-blended.

Layering the Lasagna

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). In a greased baking dish, start with a layer of lasagna noodles. Follow with a layer of the ricotta mixture, sautéed seafood, and a drizzle of white sauce. Top with shredded mozzarella. Repeat layers until you finish with noodles, topping with extra mozzarella and Parmesan.

Baking

  • Once assembled, cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and switch to broil mode for an additional 5-7 minutes until golden and bubbly.

Serving

  • Allow the lasagna to rest for a few minutes before serving hot, garnished with additional parsley.

Notes

Consider adding a splash of lemon juice to the seafood mixture and experimenting with different seafood combinations. You can also sprinkle breadcrumbs on top before broiling.
