Ingredients

Main ingredients

  • 1 lb tender steak, such as flank or sirloin, sliced thin
  • 12 oz favorite pasta (penne or rotini)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil for searing the steak
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced adds sweetness and aroma
  • 1/2 cup BBQ sauce
  • 2 tbsp honey for added sweetness
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream for a creamy sauce
  • dash garlic powder to taste
  • dash smoked paprika to taste
  • salt to taste
  • pepper to taste
  • freshly chopped parsley for garnishing

Instructions

Cooking Pasta

  • Begin by boiling a large pot of salted water. Cook the pasta according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside, making sure to reserve some of the starchy water.

Cooking Steak

  • While the pasta cooks, grab a large skillet and warm 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium-high heat until it shimmers invitingly.
  • Add the sliced steak into the skillet, searing it for about 3-4 minutes until browned on all sides. Remove the steak from the skillet and set aside.

Caramelizing Onions

  • In the same skillet, add the sliced onion. Cook for 4-5 minutes until the onions soften and caramelize.

Building the Sauce

  • Stir in the BBQ sauce and honey, blending them well with the caramelized onions.
  • Pour in the beef broth and heavy cream, stirring continuously. Let it simmer for about 3-4 minutes until slightly thickened.

Combining & Serving

  • Return the cooked steak and pasta to the skillet. Toss everything together to coat in the creamy sauce. Season to taste with garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.
  • Garnish with freshly chopped parsley and serve immediately.

Notes

For enhanced flavor, consider marinating the steak in olive oil, garlic powder, and smoked paprika for at least 30 minutes. Add red pepper flakes for a spicy kick.
