Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 6 whole baby dill pickles or 3 large whole dill pickles
  • 5 oz can of tuna in water well-drained
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise for creaminess
  • 1/4 cup finely diced red onion for an aromatic crunch
  • 1 teaspoon honey or sugar optional for a hint of sweetness

Instructions

Preparation

  • Start by slicing the pickles in half lengthwise and scoop out the soft centers with a small spoon.
  • Blot the insides of the pickle halves with a paper towel to remove any excess moisture.
  • Finely chop the scooped-out pickle centers and dry them to avoid excess liquid.
  • In a medium-sized bowl, flake the drained tuna with a fork and mix in the mayonnaise, diced red onion, chopped pickle centers, and honey or sugar.
  • Spoon the tuna mixture into each hollowed-out pickle half, packing it in nicely.
  • Serve immediately or chill in the refrigerator for about 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

For an added crunch, consider incorporating diced celery or shredded carrots into the filling. You can also experiment with flavored mayonnaise or add spices like dill or paprika for extra flavor. Tuna Pickle Boats can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days, but are best enjoyed fresh. Substitute canned salmon or make a vegetarian version using chickpeas or a bean salad for variations.
